If you would have told me 3 years ago that LA punk veterans the Bronx would be special guest performers on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno I would have laughed it off as illogical. It’s not that I thought that they weren’t good enough to do it, it’s just…well, they are a punk band. Punk has always been an outsider to the mainstream music world. From punks birth to is supposed death, it has sufficed as an escape for those who didn’t want to get caught up in typical or standard art forms. Yet, with the recent success of the Bronx, could it be? Are things starting to change for punk rock?

Probably not; I just couldn’t imagine it ever REALLY happening. Technically, the Bronx isn’t seeing that kind of success (yet), but Mariachi El Bronx (the Bronx’s alter ego) is. Still, I am impressed by their recent accomplishments. Mariachi music is just as outside of the mainstream as punk music and yet, last night I sat on my lazyboy,  flabbergasted at the sight of Mariachi El Bronx on the same stage as Jay Leno.

Aside from the televised performance, Mariachi El Bronx recently had a record release show at La Cita that sold out. They proceeded to adding a second night to their record release party and that sold out too. Also, coming this Fall, Mariachi El Bronx will be touring with The Foo Fighters. No shit…

Congrats to these guys. An awesome Los Angeles band finally getting some commercial respect.

Here are some photos I found from their record release party. Too see more, check out this link http://www.chinashopmag.com/2011/08/punk-rock-mariachi-mariachi-el-bronx/

If you doubters don’t believe this post, well then here it is…FACT!  Mariachi El Bronx on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for your eyes to see! Enjoy.
