Art walks are fun. Everybody goes to them, especially in Los Angeles. Everyone  pretends to conceptualize art, proceed to getting drunk and inevitably getting laid. That isn’t necessarily how it’ll turn out for EVERYBODY, but , nevertheless, you’re locked in to have a pretty good time. 

Well, Echo Park is holding it’s annual ECHO PARK ART WALK and we (Backside Echo Park) are involved! This is a good chance to come see and partake in a very fun, friendly neighborhood. There will be all types of art work everywhere, as well as live music and sales.

In case you’re not hip, he’s best known for his stained glass style wherein he reworks iconic imagery and makes it his own. He’s collaborated with Disney, Stussy, Kid Robot, and Matt Groening, among others. Most recently, he did a t-shirt collab with our good friends, Akomplice.

I was 7 years old.

 

Sometimes, it takes dipping your toes into the water before making the bold decision to jump into the pool. When it came to hip-hop music, I guess you can say I tested the waters with Beastie Boys. If it wasn’t for “Paul’s Boutique”being as amazing as it was, I may have never become as invested in hip-hop music as I did, hence, missing out on, what would become, the most refreshing genre that the American music industry (aside from punk rock) has ever seen.

Beastie Boys, in a way, was the secret key that welcomed me into a world I might have never known.

Today, I am sad to say that one of the original Beastie Boys and leaders of hip-hop music lost his tedious battle with cancer. Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch passed away at 47 leaving behind a plethora of awards, trophies, a huge fan base, 11 studio albums and some of the best music videos I have ever seen. He helped change the face of popular hip-hop music. Adam Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter.

If you share even a shred of the same appreciation for Beastie Boys, you best be dustin’ off your old records and putting them under that record needle.

This Saturday we will open at 9am to celebrate Record Store Day! There will be free doughnuts and coffee provided for the people showing up a little extra early and closer to noon we will be doing a BBQ behind the shop for you, the customer!

We will have numerous DJ’s stopping in through out the day to spin (all vinyl). There will be 2 DJ’s playing simultaneously between the main store and behind the store where will be having a HUGE SALE! In the back, we will have a $1 record sale and 50% off clothing! Digging for $1 records is tons of fun because you can walk away with a great amount of new music without having to break the bank. For clothing, we will be taking about half of the inside inventory to the back for 50% off, this includes brands such as Obey, Hundreds, Diamond as well as snapbacks, hoodies, etc. The best part is right after you buy something you can walk away with some food fresh off the bbq for your belly.

Again, we open at 9am, WE STRONGLY SUGGEST TO ARRIVE EARLY for Record Store Day titles. They will be limited, you know the drill.
